Saison 1 - Klara

No comment.
J´aime mon travail.

My volunteering´s Midlife Crisis and others
More than a month has passed since my last article (18th of December). This month was very diverse. It started with 14 days long holidays in the Czech Republic. Christmas with my family, best friends and new adventures – loss of my credit card at the airport, New Year´s Eve with Florian (my French friend I met thanks to this project), photography with my new camera, Czech beer and steaks.
I took a lot of energy in these holidays! That (despite my effort) changed into sadness when I had come back. I missed everyone.
Start again!
In January I went in Paris 3 times – travel Prague-Paris and after twice to vote in presidential elections. Czech embassy, I know it well already. The same way I know how the metro in Paris works – where to by the tickets, that the application RATP usually works but sometimes (when you need it) not well etc. 🙂
I obtained my Carte vitale (French insurance card). It was fast, wasn´t it? =D Tomorrow I have a meeting in education centre, about my French language course. Even faster! 🙂
My tutor doesn´t work in our organization anymore. A question of money for my structure, political subject. No comment.
I like my work. I have already gained some new specific competences – designing our website, creating a publicity to invite our youth to participate new events, evaluate its efficiency and of course planning the main part of my work – intercultural events!
The first intercultural evening for residents that has started a chain of “Thé Café International” went very well! We played intercultural games to discover our diversity at the same time as the same values. We discussed and talked about our travels in and outside Europe, drinking tea and coffee and eating cakes. We finished the event by writing our countries of origin on the desk of a new table made of paletts.
Sometimes I lose my motivation. In an evaluation of these 4 months I see a lot of positive activity. And doubts and resignation:
My French is much better then at the beginning of my volunteering, but I am still not able to follow a conversation of a group. French usually don’t understand that I don’t understand when they hear that I speak. Or the opposite, they think that I don´t speak at all when I don’t understand. That’s why the communication with some colleagues is still complicated. But it will be better soon! I believe. 🙂
I have few friends here and on the other hand many activities with kind interesting people. But it´s true that without laughing with my friends I lose energy from time to time. I still believe that I can change it by meeting more people and my activity but sometimes I don’t.
To go back to the topic of evaluation… Often I am not satisfied with the activity of my part. I can do more, I can offer more than I do now. I must search for a balance how not to be lazy and on the other hand not to exhaust myself. I would like to be more useful, but I don’t know yet how to do it. Four months (from 8 in total), it´s a half of my volunteering that has passed. I am still young, but from what I have heard about middle age crisis I think it is comparable. Just a crisis in a half of my volunteering.
I´ve already experienced how it is to be ill alone in the apartment where there is nobody to make you a tea, bring you a lunch or cook for you, do a shopping and clean the room.
I´ve been to mosque to listen to a discussion interreligious. After that I couldn´t fall asleep for 3 hours because I was thinking about religions, peace, why is everything so complicated in world relationships and “how to save the world” … Very original!
In fact, I searched for more information, more opinions, more points of view, Interculturality is not easy, moreover when I come from rather monocultural country. And that´s why it attires me.
I was surprised during my mission here that I really need to support my cognitive needs. Anything interesting. I had thought I would enjoy one year without studying, reading, anything like that. Finally, I do so more than expected.
Today I registered myself the exchange youth weekend full of lectures, discussions and prayers in Brussels, the topic is “A Vision for Europe”. I am really looking forward to participating, meeting new people, having fun! Great! New motivation is here! 😉
